- I caught the first appearance of ESPN's newest basketball analyst, Bobby Knight, this morning. I meant to say something about this yesterday when I first heard the news that he was joining the WWL, but let me put it out there now. This will be an unmitigated disaster. A train wreck. The clandestine train pulled out of the station this morning on the Mike and Mike radio show. While Knight was lecturing the two Mikes on the importance of concentration and preparation when it comes tournament time, he made an analogy to Mike Golic's career as an offensive lineman (he was not), and refused to say anything at all about the situation at Indiana. That's nice for the WWL, because I'm sure when they hired Knight they thought, "let's bring in the winningest coach in basketball history as an analyst, a guy who notched the majority of those wins at Indiana, and since the situation at Indiana this season is probably the top story of the regular season, let's make sure he refuses to provide any analysis at all on it." The guy is a great coach, and by all accounts a decent person to those who are willing to play by his do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do rules. But this analyst gig will be short lived and will probably end worse than Rush Limbaugh's stint at the WWL.- In the Big11Ten, Wisconsin's three-point prowess sent Sparty scrambling back to Lansing, and affirmed the Badgers status as the class of the conference. With their win at Indiana earlier this month, the Badgers, at 14-2 in the conference, control their own destiny.
- Thus far, nine of the 12 invited monkeys have responded in the affirmative to their invitation for fantasy baseball. Only the Mayor, Junior and McGinley are still hanging out there. Monkeys have until Monday to decide if they're joining, and until the March 18 or 19 draft to remit their $50 entry fee to The Godfather.- On this date: The late Dinah Shore, performer and noted Jew, was born on this date in 1916. Today would have been her 23rd birthday.
